I did a little location scouting (photos below) for an upcoming shoot I have in downtown Annapolis.

Also, it’s been quite a while since I updated my 101 in 1001 I have a few things I am able to knock off the list…and a lot of them are in progress right now. I am so excited for all I have going on right now…some of them are just dreams, some reality, but all make me smile!
Here are a couple things I have accomplished…be careful what you put in writing:
#8. Organize my garage. (I did this right before I moved….)
#11. Move or put in a pool (when I wrote this I had more in mind…moving to a house with a pool…but instead we MOVED MOVED)
#42. Get my braces off! (done and done!)
#83. Learn to make the best guacamole EVER! (since I was the only judge, I rule that the guacamole I made last week was indeed the BEST EVER!)
#86. Remodel bathroom. (this was also finished right before I moved)

I got to meet with this little guy before he came into the world…well..I photographed his parent’s maternity pictures so that counts right? SO, it was such an honor when I was asked to attend and photograph his 1st birthday party. His Mommy is my best friend’s big sister and it just turns out that she lives here in MD!!! This little guy is so adorable and it was so wonderful getting to know him!

Thank you for letting me be part of your special day! It was so wonderful to see familiar faces after being away from home for 3 months. xo!

I had said ummmmmm about 239,495,494 times, stumbled over my words, laughed loudly, talked candidly…let me think…was there anything else I did on the call from the list of THINGS NOT TO DO IN AN INTERVIEW?

However, once the call ended there was only one question that stuck out, only one question I was upset with how I answered, only question that I didn’t answer honestly “…off the topic since you are a photographer who is your favorite artist?”…ummmm, ummmm, ummmm….I’m an artist right? I’m suppose to have an answer right? I am suppose to name a handful of famous painters and nail the accents in their famous names…right…isn’t that what I’m suppose to do? NO. That is not what I am suppose to do. I am suppose to be myself and answer honestly, but I let my “what I’m suppose to do” get in my way and said…wait for it…. “I don’t have one.” Yep…that is really what I said!

If I had the whole moment to do over again I would say with pride and confidence, “My favorite artist is Jasmine Star, I love what she stands for, her openness and willingness to share her gift and I love seeing “love” through her eyes. I also really love Jose Villa, his soft colors and images really allow you to fall in love with both him and his images.”I had a list of 20 photographers that really inspire me and I just froze, because I was trying so hard to come up with the right answer, when all along the right answer was right on the tip of my tongue.

I learned a valuable lesson today.

This year I have put a list together of ways to think outside of the heart shaped chocolate box…

1. Custom photography! If you add up all the money you spend on all of the items I listed above it would be well within budget to have photos taken that would last a lifetime!

2. Boudoir! Ladies…what better, original, thoughtful gift is there then photos of you in perhaps a 5×7 leather bound album?

3. Photos of your little “sweethearts”…babies, children…family!

4. Photos of you and your “sweetheart”? A lot of times after the wedding photos have been taken and put away it can be years before a couple takes the time to have current photos taken again. It’s a great way to bring a spark back to those picture frames!

5. Guys…already bought her everything…out of ideas? How about a gift certificate for a photo shoot? Talk about brownie points!

Ok…so I am guessing you see a theme developing here! Below are some modern outfits that would be great for Valentine’s Day but would also look wonderful displayed year round!

SINGLE. MORNING. I wish I could say I am one of these people who wakes up with the excitement of…well…my children. But I am just not a morning person. How does one become a morning person…tips, advice, words of wisdom?

In other (mundane) news:

*I became one of those parents… the kind that there child escapes with the family dog to the elementary school next door! Yes, you heard me right! It all took place in about 2 minutes time and we have since done our very best to scare the crap out of her about stranger danger.

*It SNOWED + I drove in it!

*I currently make the best guacamole in the world!

I’ve had the opportunity to get to know “J”  since moving to Annapolis. His daddy and my husband grew up together and since our relocation our families have become great friends! Matt and Danielle are wonderful people…the kind of people that invite you for dinner, plan play-dates for the kids and bring you food…and ummm…with Matt’s love for  hunting and fishing, I have a feeling the fish they brought us yesterday is only the beginning (hint hint).

The gentle motion of the swing. The warm wind. The sun shining on my face. The sound of other children playing around me…and not having a  care in the world.

It means so much to me to know in my heart, that in this moment, my baby girls doesn’t have a worry in the world.

Now…me on the other hand…I have been working to structure my New Year in both my personal life and business…so one of my 222,277 goals for 2012 is to use Pinterest to do storyboards for client shoots. I think this will give me and my clients and wonderful way to correspond visually about our end goal! I am hoping to do some super cute, creative, stylized work in 2012! And if nothing else I will get others addicted to Pinterest and have it suck hours of their lives too!

I am so excited for all that is in store this year I can hardly stand it!

I had been given the list of 839,583,739 words weeks in advance but somewhere inside decided I was never going to win so why bother trying. Oh God..only 3 people left and then its my turn, panic sets in…maybe I will faint, or just run out of the room, think Felicia think….it’s at this point I rinse and repeat the choice, “I just won’t try and this way I can sit down and avoid going through this torture again” …

This choice shows up for me time and time again. What I tell myself: I’ll never succeed or be the best so why bother trying. Truth: This is my excuse to never have to fail…or succeed…to stay, what I tell myself is “safe”.  Somewhere along the line I made the choice I wasn’t good enough, I wasn’t worth trying for, I don’t deserve it, I’m not willing to work “that” hard just fail, not win, not be the best. Umm…hello ego!

So in 2012 a couple of my reminders:

  1. I’m worth it.
  2. I deserve it.
  3. I’m not just good enough I’m great.
  4. Don’t let your ego stand in the way of your true potential.

I believe if I can remember these 4 things my list of goals won’t seem so challenging, that I will be able to see my true potential, learn from my mistakes, realize that you have to fail sometimes to know what success feels like and that if it’s important to you then it is certainly work trying for!
